Jesus knows our every pain and struggle. Jesus understands every emotion that we can ever feel and He feels it too. Hebrews 4:15, Isaiah 53:3
Jesus, our Lord is compassionate. Exodus 34:6
The Hebrew word for compassionate is ‘rakhum‘, which stems from the Hebrew word ‘rekhem‘ which means womb. This is a powerful image. The same way a mother feels every movement of her child as he or she is developing, Jesus feels everything that we go through.
Too often we can feel that God is so distant. That somehow what we read Jesus doing in the Bible was for ‘them’ – way back then! But Jesus loves us deeply and is willing to be there for us now in every phase of life.
One key scripture that touches on this is in John 11. The account of when Jesus resurrects Lazarus. He was informed about Lazarus being sick, but waited until He had died to come and visit the family in Bethany, Judea.
33 Therefore, when Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who came with her weeping, He groaned in the spirit and was troubled. 34 And He said, “Where have you laid him?”
John 11: 33 – 43
They said to Him, “Lord, come and see.”
35 Jesus wept.
36 Then the Jews said, “See how He loved him!”
37 And some of them said, “Could not this Man, who opened the eyes of the blind, also have kept this man from dying?”
38 Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. 39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.”
Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”
40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” 41 Then they took away the stone [d]from the place where the dead man was lying. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard Me. 42 And I know that You always hear Me, but because of the people who are standing by I said this, that they may believe that You sent Me.” 43 Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!”
44 And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with grave clothes, and his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”
This is a miraculous account. But I want to focus on the fact that the author notes how Jesus was feeling. Jesus knew that Lazarus would live and yet was still moved by the death; He felt the disappointment and hurt that Mary and Martha had. He groaned at the situation. He wept too!
I believe it highlights that Jesus too feels our every pain, He is not immune by it because of His divinity, and He still used this situation to show Mary, Martha and the Jews the glory of God.
Likewise whatever we may be going through know that Jesus has compassion for us. He is willing to to show the glory of God in our lives too.
Hope this message was a blessing to you!
